can't complain about the purchase. easy setup...good features. the only downside is that it doesn't convert component to hdmi so you have to run a component cable as well as hdmi to your tv. for me this won't be a problem as soon as i upgrade my dvd player to one with hdmi out. the person that complained about buying extra cables...well it's pretty simple. if you wan't digital surround sound you need some sort of digital input. technically yes this signal could be sent through the hdmi cable but i prefer keeping my audio and video on separate cables. it makes it a lot easier to diagnose a problem if one arises. i found two dynex fiber optic cables on ebay for 2.99 a piece and used an old, yet high quality, shielded stereo rca audio cable...split it into two and used one length for the digital coaxial input and the other for my subwoofer. the sound is great...i just wish you could edit the names of the inputs so it would say "xbox" on the receiver when i'm gaming but if that's my biggest concern then you can imagine the quality of this product.

This product is excellent, expecially for the price. It was easy to install and the instructions were clear. My surround system is an amalgam of parts from older systems. I have wall mounted Lansing surround speakers. The main speakers are Harmon Kardon and the sub-bass is a powered unit by Energy. My living room is very large and when the volume is turned up, we get theatre quality sound. I suppose a true audiophile would find fault, but the sound is full and the subtle details are clear. My only minor complaint is that the TV won't work unless the reciever is turned on. Sometimes I like to listen to the TV using the built in speakers without turning on the surround system. It can be done, but only if the surround is on and muted. I have not used the automatic sound balancing system. I hooked up the system and have been using the reciever with the built in default values and everybody is happy. One of these days I'll try the microphone and do the recommended balancing, but it's really pretty good without it. GOOD value.
outstanding purchase

I bought this item as a second receiver and I am happy with my purchase because it gave me the flexibility I needed for hooking up all my components. I like the quick connects on the front for Ipod or other purposes. I would recommend it to others.
