Planning a Car Audio System
With such a broad range of components and gadget on the market for car audio systems, the big question is: Where do I begin? "
First you must decide what you want to do. If you want to build a car audio system for the driver per day (the car you drive back and forth to work) with a good sound, but you are not interested in competing, a system can easily be put together for under $ 1000 But if you are looking for all-out bass monster, be prepared to fall in some bigdollar in your system.
One of the most important things to remember when a car audio system is built planning. Have an idea of where you want to place components, subwoofers, amplifiers and power distribution. Much of headache can be prevented proper planning!
The base system, you can see some of the necessary components.
Let's start first with the head unit (CD player). It 'clear that we need a good head unit. If you start with good qualityCD player and select the audio system upgrade in the future, purchase a head that will grow with you. Some of the features you might want to keep in mind are:
1. CD Changer Control
2. / XM Sirius controls (if you decide to add Satellite radio in the future)
3. Dual RCA outputs (to signal to the amplifiers)
4. Button (important for competition)
5. Detachable face, or other safety
6. High-voltage line driver – who will sendaudible at a higher voltage to your amplifier / s reducing noise and improving the overall quality of sound.
After choosing the drive head, you'll get a decision on amplifiers and subwoofers to do. Remember that you get what you pay. Subwoofer $ 30 will be as big as a $ 300 subwoofer, but the ability of each may vary. Look at the power handling of each subwoofer and decide accordingly. You want subwoofers will work with your amplifier / s (seecompatibility).
You should also keep in mind the available space in the car. Are you willing to surrender their entire cargo area? How many subwoofers will fit? Decide the size. Sizes range from 8 "to 18", some are square (Kicker), but most are approx. Also keep in mind the resistance (Ohm) on the subwoofer and make sure it is compatible with your amplifier / s (see compatibility). Subwoofer decision will also have an effect on the cabinet you decide to build or buy. ForThe base system, I recommend buying a local prefab subwoofer. Will save you money and headache (especially when they finally build two or three times!). Sure to take the exact measure of its cargo area before building or buying an enclosure!
The other components may, depending on the system that is being built, and how large your goodwill will be required. For the competition vehicle, figure upgrading your alternator, adding aBattery for your system (maybe more), installation of high quality RCA cables, wires, cables from the ground and power cable. You can refer to a capacitor is required to add the amplifier with a reservoir of power to a great success from subs expected. You may need an electronic crossover, a gun factory replacement speakers, an amplifier for the mid-range and tweeters, additional speakers in the vehicle for the organization, etc.
