This receiver is not the best, but for the price it's awesome
Do not set your speakers to small or you will lose the true meaning of Low Frequency effects because every sound will go to the subwoofer.
*NOTE
HDMI doesnt output audio. Not much of a big deal unless u have Blu Ray play(PS3 doesn't bitstream HD audio but u can LPCM for the same exact quality.)

AS we upgraded the old TV to a Sony Bravia LCD, the 15 year old Sony A/V receiver was not up to the task of switching HDTV inputs or Dolby 5.1 audio. This unit was very easy to set up with the audio 'test' feature that lets you adjust the 5 speakers for volume, distance from you & height off the floor. It has produced true surround sound in our family room, both from cable HD broadcasts and DVD's played through a Sony 'upconverting' DVD player.
Excellent service and product!

I was looking for a relatively cheap but good sounding 5.1 surround system for my living room and I was very pleased with this unit! First of all, after reading the previous reviews I didn't have any unrealistic expectations for a unit in this price range. My setup is simple just a ps3 and a Hidef DVR to the receiver with HDMI AND fiber optic separately (because as others have noted it doesn't pull the audio off the HDMI), than one HDMI to the TV. Everything worked as soon as I hooked it up, ready for me to fine tune it. Paired with this speaker setYamaha NS-SP1800BL 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker Package which is about $120 when I bought it--makes an AWESOME 5.1 system for $275 all together. I am impressed with the sound quality and I'm pretty picky when it comes to sound, but by no means a professional. Music playback also sounds really good, you can select with one push of the button the remote to have all sound come through every speaker to make a really full sounding audio very easily. I can't comment on much of the other features yet right now, but out of the box this unit performs exactly the way I expected it to, I was able to adjust all the volumes easily and sounds great with the setup I have, that I described. Also, with those speakers it can get really loud and still sound good too. Overall I recommend this product to anyone looking for a good sounding unit with a price point of under 200.
Great Price easy set up!

This receiver was a breeze to set up took about 15 minutes to connect a PS3 and Xbox360 and program them. Instruction manual was easy to understand. You can easily change the display read out to match your components. For the price you can't beat it for an entry level receiver. I bought the Yamaha NS-SP1800BL 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker Package to go with the receiver and the sound is incredible for such short money $254.00 shipped to my door!
